The
Consolidated High School of
Jewish Studies of Charlotte
PURPOSE
The Consolidated High School of Jewish Studies of Charlotte (CHS)
is sponsored by Temple Israel and Temple Beth El for students in grades
8 - 12. CHS offers an enriched academic program and provides an environment in
which students are exposed to a variety of ideas, values and practices to
strengthen their Jewish identity. CHS provides teenagers a natural setting for
combining Jewish education with Jewish social experiences. Students are
encouraged to expand their knowledge of Judaica, exchange views on important
issues, and develop strong Jewish values and a sense of unity with Jewish
people.
PROGRAMS:
Classes meet on Wednesday evenings at Shalom Park from 7 - 9 p.m. Eighth and
ninth grade students enroll in a one year-long core class, and three electives
per year. In addition, these students participate in one week-end learning
experience per year, which is designed to enhance the program. Tenth grade
students meet weekly with the Rabbi of their own synagogue for an intensive
year-long study experience which culminates with their Confirmation. Eleventh
and twelfth graders may choose to enroll in a special Wednesday night course
which is designed exclusively for those students who wish to continue their
Jewish education beyond Confirmation. An additional program which meets monthly
on Sunday evenings for dinner and a seminar is available to all eleventh and
twelfth grade students. CHS students have the opportunity to serve actively on
its Student Council which fosters school spirit and spearheads tzedakah and
other projects.
