Charlotte Celebrates Israel@60 Sunday, May 11, 2008 7:00 pm, Blumenthal Center for Performing Arts, Belk Theater SHEKETAK: ISRAELI PERCUSSION PHENOMENON Sheketak: Rhythm in Motion is an explosion of industrial-strength, urban frenzy, multicultural performance styles spreading across the planet and appealing to audiences of all ages. The group has traveled and performed in over 25 countries all over Europe, the United States, South America and the Far East. An internationally acclaimed Israeli percussion phenomenon, the ten-member ensemble of young men and women with superhuman stamina and a flair for quirky humor, throw elements of "Stomp," "Blue Man Group," hora and hip-hop into a great big pot. Sheketak combines live alternative rock, body percussion and junkyard theatrics throwing everything into a huge rhythmic cauldron with the most exacting fury and whimsy. Tickets on sale at www.blumenthalcenter.org for $15 and $10.
"This international touring company, which played to packed houses at the
Chicago's Harris Theater for Music and Dance, is about making a big noise.
Sheketak speaks the international language of pop with fluency and humor."
